at this time of my parting

wish me good luck, my friends!

the sky is flushed with the dawn

and my path lies beautiful .

ask not what i have with me

to take there .

i start on my journey

with empty hands and expectant heart.

i shall put on my wedding garland.

mine is not the red-brown dress

of the traveller,

and though there are dangers on the way

i have no fear in my mind.

the evening star will come out

when my voyage is done

and the plaintive notes

of the twilight melodies be struck up

from the king's gateway.

இங்கிருந்து விடைபெறுகையில்

என் நண்பர்களே !

' நந்நேரம் ' கூறி வாழ்த்துங்கள் !

புலர்காலையின் புதுப் பொலிவில்

வானம் பெருக்கெடுத்துள்ளது -

என் பாதையில் அழகு அரங்கேறுகிறது !

கேளாதீர்.... அங்கு எடுத்துச் செல்ல

நான் எது வைத்திருக்கிறேன் என்பதாய் -

எனது பயணத்தை வெற்றுக் கைகளுடனும்

விழையும் நெஞ்சுடனும் துவக்குகிறேன் .

நான் திருமண மாலையை அணிந்து கொள்வேன் -

எனது உடை ஒரு பயணியின்

செம்பழுப்பு நிற உடை அல்ல-

வழியில் ஆபத்துக்கள் எதிர்ப்படும் என்றிடினும்

என் மனதில் அச்சம் அறவே இல்லை .

என் பயணம் முடிகையில்

அந்த மாலை விண்மீன் மலரும் -

ராஜ வாயிலில் அந்திப்பொழுதின் மெல்லிசையின்

சோக இழைகள் தூண்டப்படும்.
